Game and Watch: Super Mario Bros - Crystal

Super Mario Bros. for the Game & Watch was a game that was released on the Crystal Screen and New Wide Screen unit. While the exact date of its release is unknown, it can be confirmed that it was released sometime in June of 1986 and March of 1988. A special edition of the game, which came with a winner certificate, a license card and battery cover stickers, and a Famicom mascot case was given away in August of 1987.

Gameplay
Bowser and his Koopas have invaded the Mushroom Kingdom and kidnapped Peach. Mario must move through 8 side-scrolling stages, dodging Lakitus and Bullet Bills. Mario can jump around on platforms, gain extra lives by finding 1UP Mushrooms and become invincible with the Starman. In World 4, Mario will be swimming under the water. As well as enemies, Mario will also have to face timed levels, auto-scrolling levels, mazes and rotating firebars.

Trivia

  • The special edition version of the game that was mentioned above was given away to winners of a competition Nintendo held in 1987. There were four categories and the first 1500 participants of each category won the game while 1000 others of each category randomly won the game, meaning a total of 10,000 copies were given away. The game came in a nice looking Famicom mascot case, and the actual unit was yellow. It also came with a License card that featured either an A, a B, or a C depending on how well the person performed in the contest.
  • A miniclassics model of the game was also released in 1998. The game resembled a Game Boy and featured a key chain.
  • A cheat in the game will allow the player to start on level 3-1. To do this, just simply hold the JUMP button and press the GAME button.

Rarity
A very rare example to find, with under 250,000 games manufactured.
